What is required to request Continuing Legal Education(CLE) credit for a seminar?

A CLE seminar request involves noting the need for state‑specific CLE filing in QuestTrak, understanding that each state has different rules and timelines, and providing any additional attorney‑focused details Quest CE may require.

Continuing Legal Education
CLE credit is requested on a seminar-by-seminar basis. Unlike the instructor or per-course blanket approval available through state insurance departments and the designation boards, state CLE boards typically approve content on a per usage (seminar-by-seminar) basis. This means, each time you would like to offer CLE credit, it must be requested during the seminar setup process.

Requesting a CLE Seminar
If you know attorneys will be at your future event and wish to have your seminar filed for CLE credit, set up your new seminar in QuestTrak and type a request in the Additional Comments box asking that the seminar be filed for CLE credit in the specific state(s) needed.

State CLE Board DifferencesThe state CLE boards vary widely in their filing requirements and processing times. The majority of state will require that the filing be submitting at least 30 days prior to the seminar date. Once filed, the average review period is 30-45 days; although, some states may take longer to review filings. Some state may have specific rules that need to be followed in order to hold a CLE seminar. For example, New York requires all CLE seminars to be instructed by an attorney in good standing, or there must be one present for the entire duration of the seminar to answer specific questions related to law.

Additional Information
Upon requesting a CLE filing, additional information may be requested by Quest CE (i.e. course objective tailored to attorneys and how attending your seminar will improve the legal skills of someone in the legal profession). As all state CLE boards differ in their filing process, timeframes, and requirements, the above is to be used as a general set of guidelines. If you have a specific state CLE you are interested in offering, please advise Quest CE and we can provide the specifics on what is required.
