Dual Credit

What is Dual Credit?

Dual Credit is a feature that allows users to earn completion credit for multiple CE or designation CE courses by completing just one course (and exam). Dual Credit can be applied when a course has been approved for credit in more than one designation.

Dual Credit approvals vary by course and are available on select courses in our catalogs, giving users the option to apply a single course completion toward credit in another designation.

Important Things to know about Dual Credit:

  1. Credit cap: Dual Credit is capped at 5 credits per course. Any course worth more than 5 credit hours is not eligible for Dual Credit.
  2. Direction matters: Dual Credit only applies from State CE courses to Designations — not the other way around. Because states have stricter exam requirements, completing a course for state CE credit (e.g., WI State CE) may offer Dual Credit toward a designation like CFP, but completing a CFP course will not offer WI State CE as a Dual Credit option (because the state requires a longer exam to be completed for credit).
  3. Check eligibility before purchasing: In our catalogs, you can click on any course to view which designations it can be applied toward. Always confirm Dual Credit eligibility prior to purchase.
  4. Dual Credit is not automatic: After completing a course for credit in a specific state or designation, users must take action to select the Dual Credit option for any additional designations the course is approved for. For example, completing a course for IAR CE credit does not automatically apply credit toward CFP — users must actively select the CFP Dual Credit option after completing the original course.
  5. Fees may apply: Dual Credit may incur an additional certificate fee for processing credit with the additional designation board, or the fee may be included in a firm program's service cost. Fees vary by account terms.
